5. SUMMARY AND OUTLOOK
* A dense steel matrix composite with 10 vol.% TiC was produced by powder blending,
HIP consolidation and heat treatment.
The formation of a reaction phase between TiC and the steel matrix was confirmed by
SEM and XRD, whereas its chemical composition was found to be (Ti,M)C with M = V,
Mo, W, Cr, Fe) by STEM/EDS.
It was established by quantitative analysis of SEM/BSE images and XRD, that with
increasing HIP time the reaction phase increases, although reaction kinetics slow down
towards higher HIP times.
In future works Rietveld refinement will be applied and the different scattering factors of
TiC and (Ti,M)C will be taken into account to study reaction phase fraction and formation
kinetics in detail.
