5 - CONCLUSION
There is a high interest for vegetation monitoring either for scientific purposes or for economical applications.
Many of them already make an intensive use of satellite data. They may be improved thanks to instruments
specially designed for these applications. In addition to the relevant ESA programmes, CNES is proposing four
optical instruments whose characteristics are adapted to these objectives. Three of them are under development
and will be available in 1997.
