Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) Operational
Line-scan System (OLS) is capable to detect night fires using a
time series image analysis to define a reference set of “stable”
lights. The analysis define as “fire”, if any source of light has
different geo-location of the reference set of stable lights. The
DMSP-OLS data is archived and analyzed to make “fire
products” at NOAA’s National Geophysics Data Center
(NGDC).
The figure shows the near real time data and product network
of TRMM and DMSP, from NASA/GSFC and NOAA/NGDC
to Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Research
Network (MAFFIN) and National Space Development Agency
(NASDA) through advanced networks. The MAFFIN real time
processing system (shown in the next page) undertakes TRMM
visualization processing and a real time TRMM/ground radar
analysis. Dedicated servers disseminate TRMM rainfall
images to registered users through APAN.
