FOREWORD
It is a great pleasure to welcome you to Antalya, the ideal place for having the international
symposium of CIPA, with its history going back almost to the birth of civilisation and with
abundant historical places.
The symposium programme reveals a full coverage of themes that have attracted several speakers.
The numerous abstracts received by the organisers ensure that the quality of the oral and poster
sessions will be high.
I firmly believe that your attendance to the XIX. International Symposium of CIPA will not only
enable you to present the latest developments, to exchange experiences and to discuss key issues in
the recording and documentation of cultural heritage, specifically of monuments and sites which is
important for all cultures.
The object of the symposium is to provide an opportunity for architects, art historians, scientists,
technical experts working in the field of recording, documenting and preservation of monuments
and sites to meet and to present new ideas, achievements and experiences. It will serve as a meeting
place for the development of closer links among researchers and practitioners and incorporation of
the latest knowledge into practice. It will also provide an opportunity for cultural and social
activities with the exotic background of an ancient and cosmopolitan city.
A symposium is not only composed of sessions and formal meetings. Receptions and tours give the
opportunity for individual meetings and discussions where you will find out what is really going on.
Old timers can meet again and young participants can extend their networks from which they will
benefit for many years.
The local organising committee has worked hard to meet your expectations and to set a standard for
the CIPA Symposiums of this century.
We welcome you to Turkey!
Prof. Dr. M. Orhan ALTAN
