Foreword 
(344) We are delighted to present the proceedings of the conference “Mapping without the 
Sun —Techniques and Applications of Optical and SAR Imagery Fusion”. The 
(348) conference organized by Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping (CASM), 
together with Sichuan Bureau of Surveying and Mapping, Beijing Institute of Civil 
Engineering and Architecture, China and three ISPRS working groups (ISPRS WG 
VII /6, VD/7, II/1), takes place on 25-27 September 2007 in Chengdu, China. 
Aiming to share the technical developments of data fusion, SAR imagery processing, 
advanced classification, change detection and registration, the international conference 
has provided a platform to strengthen the relationships and promote technical 
cooperation among the researchers working in these fields and other disciplines of 
Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. 
We have received more than 140 domestic and overseas submissions. From these 
submitted abstracts, the scientific program committee carefully selected 73 full papers, 
26 being presented orally and 47 being presented as posters. We would like to express 
our gratitude to the members of the scientific committee, organizing committee and to 
the reviewers and authors. Special thanks go to Mr. Jinhui Yang and Ms. Wenyu Gong 
for their hard work for preparing the proceedings.
