In imaging spectrometry governmental bodies have contracted the
F'CfMI Remote Sensing Centre to organize an international aerial
survey using the Canadian Moniteq's Fluorescence Line Imager
(FLI) in order to collect and archive data on land guality in the
Szigetkoz area. The data can be used as reference for regional
change analysis if spaceborne hi—resolution imaging spectrometry
data will be available in the Earth Observation Programme of the
90's. This Szigetkoz campaign was the very first application of a
high-tech 288 channel pushbroom imager in Eastern Central Europe.
In preprocessing of hiqh resolution remotely sensed data,
service is provided meet the requirements of the user community
and according to the recommendations of the European Space Agency
for national centers. For example, at the FOMI RSC a full range
of in—house developed software is available for data
integration, digital image analysis, pattern recognition and I/O
operations in Pericolor, Colormation and MicroVax environment.
The local area network/ was upgraded with the installation of the
ESRI's ARC/Info interactive graphical subsystem.
For processing of remotely sensed data from satellites, a high-
performance, interactive image processing workstation called
ATLAS-90, using pipeline technique and programable high-precision
digitizer was developed by the industry.
Different level, low-cost professional personal computer based
general purpose picture processing systems, capable for remote
sensing applications have been developed and offered by different
companies.
The ITC's integrated land and watershed management information
system, a second-generation GIS was installed for use in
environment management.
Some of the remote sensing users has developed/established their
own digital image processing laboratory.
In the last two years, terrain modelling. automatic slope
categorization, orthophoto—processing and advanced photogram-
metric data collection technigues have been developed and
provided by various institutions.
For the market of geographical information technigues, at least
ten institutions have been created hardware/software systems used
to input, store/retrieve, manipulate/analyze, display and
plot/print spatially referenced digital data.
It should be mentioned, that a novel chip for cell processors
using 1.5pm HCMOS technology has been developed in frame of a
Hungarian—British joint venture. The Ml ce11 processor (one item in
the product range) is a general purpose accelerator working as
slave processor for personal computers and workstations. Highly
parallel computations are executed in a homogeneous cellural
field formed by 256 processing elements. The performance is 8 up
to 2000 MOPS. Other product is a PC plug-in card named XI devoted
to speed up image processing also used in evaluation of remotely
sensed data.
As far as the more advanced information dissemination is
concerned, more and more remote sensing data suppliers and users
have been joined to the public, packet-switched terrestrial data
transmission network.
