6 POSITION INFORMATION ON DAMAGE 
How the road is damaged can be understood by the taking a 
picture device of the pavement road. The road manager is 
interested in information where to be damaged. Then, we try to 
install GPS and the giro in the measurement vehicle and obtain 
position information on the pavement damage situation. The giro 
plays the role to acquire position information when GPS cannot 
acquire the data in the geographical features situation such as 
tunnels. If position information and a digital image of the road 
can be expressed with GIS, the road manager can use information 
on the pavement damage for the business further. We operate the 
measurement vehicle where GPS and the giro were installed in 
July 1999.

7 CONCLUSION 
The investigation member went directly and the situation of the 
crack was confirmed in old times. A special device records the 
road image by an analogue or a digital method and the crack is 
confirmed now. Especially, the use value rises if a digital method 
with the laser and the optical detection sensor uses GPS and the 
giro. It is convinced that it is possible to contribute to the road 
service better the acquired data.
