Hyperlinks were created in order to connect some objects in the
scene to relative data. In this approach an Anchor node provided
hyperlinking. The Anchor grouping node allows hyperlinking of
any object to an HTML data file or WWW sites. Such an
interaction between user and data model is independent from
hardware platform. By specifying any WWW address or HTML
data file a road sign, for example, can be linked to register
corresponding to a road sign properties or to road sign database.
House may also be linked to real-estate databases.
In practical tests the road signs in the 3D model werhyperlinked
to the HTLM document describing road signs at the SNRA
server. In a similar way the road was linked to the SQL database
at Microsoft TerraServer. A TerraServer site user can seek for
digital maps or satellite images corresponding to the virtual model
(Fig 8).

6. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSSIONS
The approach presented here has been designed to illustrate the
potential of virtual reality tools in combination with data collected
with help of mobile mapping technology. This work demonstrates
one of the ways in which mobile mapping data can be used,
visualised and combined with other data sources.
The SNRDB acquires information with different tools and
methods. Each year the database expands and the files become
more complex. To perform any analysis the user is often forced to
work with different datafiles which has different extensions. The
presented approach could definitely support analysis and decision
making. The described interface can be employed to permit
visualisation and interaction with other databases or files.
Moreover, the interface based on VR tools introduces a high
degree of realism into any analysis. The proposed interface is
hardware independent and it can be used via the Internet.
Symbolic representation of the objects optimises the size of the
data files required for fast fly- and walk through, also for
examination of the VR model. Symbolic representation may be
extended to “realistic” depending on the requirement.
Basic visualisation and linking problems have been successfully
solved. The approach of an interface based on MMS and VR has
been presented. Unfortunately the presented idea is not fully
complete, it requires modifications and further development in
order to be implemented into practice.
