Full text: Proceedings; XXI International Congress for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (Part B6a)

Introduction
The recent advancement of technologies in photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial
information science (SIS) is obvious. Many engineers are now using the latest technologies they did
not learn when they were students. Importance of on job training and life-long education is
increasing. Digital cameras, Internet-based information services such as Google Earth and car
navigation are widely used by the public today. The interest to the education on these technical
fields is also increasing.
ISPRS Technical Commission (TC) VI on “Education and Outreach” deals mainly with educational
matters related to photogrammetry, remote sensing and SIS. The highly integrated multimedia &
internet technologies are pushing e-Learning to change the style of education. Many technical
matters on education are now discussed within the framework of TC VI. Reflecting the various
activities of the five Working Groups (WG) and one Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Commission,
the themes of the papers submitted to TC VI include, but not limited to, e-Learning, training, capacity
building, distance education, accreditation, datasets, and student organizations. I am sure that the
Proceedings will be extremely useful not only for the educators but also for the students and young
scientists who are interested in education on technologies related to photogrammetry, remote
sensing and SIS. I would like to thank the WG & SIG Chairs and all the authors of the papers for
their great contribution. I also would like to thank the Congress Director Chen Jun, the Scientific
Program Committee Executive Chair Jiang Jie and the Local Organizing Committee of China for
their dedicated work on preparing the proceedings.
