FAQ
In general
The digitised holdings of the TIB give you access to a wide range of digitised works (mainly 19th and 20th century) and special collections of the TIB Hannover.
The portal shows that there is a digital copy of a work in the TIB Hannover, but I cannot find the work in the viewer. Why is that?
We can only publish works if they are in the public domain or if TIB Hannover has received rights from the copyright holders. Works that are still subject to copyright cannot yet be published. In addition to public domain works, TIB Hannover also digitises copyright-protected works that may not yet be published.
The digital copies were produced in their entirety by the Retrodigitisation team at TIB Hannover.
With a user account you can use the watch list. The registration of a user account for retrodigitisation is to be distinguished from the registration for borrowing from the TIB. However, it is possible to enter identical data for the respective registration.
You can create one or more freely nameable lists in your profile under "Manage watch lists", in which you can permanently save direct links for selected works and continue to use them when you log in again.
Search and find
You will find the advanced search in the menu bar. The advanced search offers you extended search fields and faceting options. You can choose between: all fields, metadata, full text, overview pages, identifier, collection, language, structure type, title, persons, publisher/publishing house, place of publication, year of publication and signature. Combinations can be created using the AND or OR operators.
After searching with a search term, you can filter further by collection, structure type, year of publication, year and language. You can sort your hit list according to certain categories using the "sorting" button: persons, title, creation date, publication year and signature. In the left-hand column you will find further faceting options. On the right-hand side you will find further help texts.
You can obtain initial information on the digitised holdings from the retro-digitisation department: retrodigitalisierung@tib.eu If necessary, you will be referred there for further information on the content.
Download of images and texts
Go to "Cite and reuse". Here you will be offered various formats for individual images, chapters or the entire work. You can also download individual chapters or the entire volume as a pdf from the tables of contents.
The digital copies usually have a resolution of 400 dpi.
Go to "Cite and reuse". There you select "Full text" and receive the texts generated by our OCR. Then save on your computer and you will receive a folder with the full texts of the individual pages. Of course, you can also save individual pages by copying and pasting.
