Die Resultate der zwei Methoden zeigen nicht gute Übereinstimmung. Prelimináre Resultate — fiir beide Methoden — für die Variation der Stereosehenvermôgen mit Geschlecht, Alter, Augen- basis etc. sind erhalten. Personne ne demandant la parole sur ces communications, le Président fait quelques remarques. M. J. Cruset: A l’Institut Géographique National nous sommes amenés à pratiquer différentes méthodes de sélection, soit avec un stéréoscope et des silhouettes d’objets au voisinage desquelles se trouvent différents signes présen tant des différences de parallaxes connues par rapport aux silhouettes, soit avec une boîte dans laquelle nous avons fait des silhouettes que l’on peut déplacer de quantités même très petites, soit encore au moyen de télémètres stéréoscopi ques de grande base, soit enfin et c’est celui-là qui compte lorsqu’on a en vue non plus le recrutement des ingénieurs, mais celui des opérateurs pour les appareils de restitution, au moyen des appareils de restitution eux-mêmes. Je crois que, dans tout cela, il y a, malgré tout une assez bonne harmonie, si l’on tient compte de ce que le contraste des objets utilisés a une importance considérable. Le stéréoscope opère sur des silhouettes très contrastées. Si sur l’appareil de restitution (c’est le cas aussi de la boîte dans laquelle on peut déplacer les silhouettes), si donc sur l’appareil de restitution, dis-je, on a des objets très bien définis, présentant un contraste grand dans une zone petite, il y a un bon accord entre tous les résultats. Si au contraire, ce qui peut arriver avec le télémètre sur des points lointains, par un temps qui n’est pas très clair, ou encore ce qui arrive, cela sûrement, sur l’appareil de restitution lorsque les sujets photographiés: zones désertiques, forêts prises à haute altitude, présentent assez peu de contrastes, lorsque les contours sont mal définis géométriquement, le test est beaucoup plus difficile et la sélection des personnes examinées est beaucoup plus probante. Mr. Cruset remarks that different means of selection are applied at the I. G. N. either with a stereoscope and silhouettes of objects near which different signs have been placed, with differences of parallaxes which are known, as compared to the objects or with a box containing some self- made silhouette targets which can be moved, even over very small distances, or again with stereo scopic large base range-finders, or finally with the plotting machine itself. This last method is important if one wishes to choose technicians for working with the plotting-machine. There is a fair amount of harmony in the results obtained when the work is done with well-defined objects presenting sharp contrasts. However the test is considerably more difficult to be carried out when operating with a range finder on far off low contrasted points, or with the plotting-machine on desert areas, forests from high altitudes, with few contrasts, geometrically badly defined limits, etc. In that case, the selection of specialists is more accurate, and significant.
