356 a bus trip along the Indal river was arranged including a demonstration of the new hydroelectric power plant Bergeforsen. Among other details, the practical arrangements for the protection of the important fishing industry in the river were shown. Tour If.. The participants, 32 persons from 15 countries, continued from Sundsvall to Boliden by night train and bus. In Boliden the actual mining work and the mapping problems in connection with ore prospecting were inspected and demonstrated. In a special rail bus the trip continued via Boden to Kiruna. When crossing the Polar Circle, the bus stopped for a reception by King Bore himself, who presented the participants a special certificate. In Kiruna the famous iron mines Kirunavaara and Loussavaara were visited for a demonstration of the mining work and the treatment of the ore. Not far from Kiruna very large reallotments are being performed. The application of photogrammetry to these mapping projects and some of the main problems of cadastral work in these regions were demonstrated by the local authorities. In connection with a visit to the old village of Jukkasjârvi the modern geophysical institutions and the research in Kauppinen were explained by Dr. Ambolt. Next day the large hydroelectric power plant of Harsprânget was visited and de monstrated. The important role of photogrammetry for the planning of such a large water regulation and power plant enterprise was clearly evident. The last day of the tour was devoted to the village of Gallivare. After a de monstration of local cadastral and mapping projects the participants were transported to the top of the mountain Dundret by ski-lift. Some of the parti cipants were from there flown by helicopter to a reindeer experiment station in the wilderness and then back to Gallivare. The rest of the participants were taken around in Gallivare and surroundings for inspection of the development of these important mining centers. The tour ended in Boden. In summary, for the Swedish hosts the technical tours were great and wel come opportunities to learn to know the participants more closely than during the hectic congress days in Stockholm, and to discuss problems in common.
