Attendance varied between 40 to 70 persons. The papers presented were under the following headings : tions? to be in a ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING a) identifying water quality -(i) using Landsat images (J. VERDIN, USA) lution and (ii) thermographic airphotos (S. SOUDOPLATOFF, FRANCE) b) land -(i) ecological changes caused by new town construction (COLLIER, COLLINS, UK.) (ii) coastal and environmental changes by tourist settlements (GRIFFITH, COLLINS, U.K.) URBAN INFORMATION FROM R.S. SOURCES (i) Simulation results of SPOT : 10 m pixel for urban images (S. SOUDOPLATOFF, FRANCE) (ii) Landuse and Environmental data bank (K. ZIRM, SALZBURG, AUSTRIA) (iii) Enhancing Landsat data for urban information (H. SHIMODA, JAPAN) (iv) Population density in homogeneous urban areas (V. POLLE, NETHERLANDS ) All the papers presented made a contribution to our present state of the art, and, in the case of the first four papers, the methodology can now be applied operationally on a wider scale. Mr GUAN HUA XU, Chinese Academy of Forestry, Peking, gave an outline on the land use monitoring being undertaken in North China, using Landsat images, to the W.G. VII-6 committee meeting. The Data Bank being established for Salzburg adds to the systems and experience of land- and environmental Data Banks, operational in the Scandinavian countries.
