Poussiéres cosmiques. — Cendres des volcans. — Sables des déserts. — 
Brume rousse du cap Vert. — Pluies d'engrais. — Brouillards secs. 
POUSSIÈRES COSMIQUES 
On doit attribuer une origine cosmique à une 
grande partie des poussières qui tombent de l'atmo- 
sphère. Non-seulement des aérolithes de très-faible 
consistance ont été recueillis, mais plusieurs sa- 
vants pensent que l'apparition des bolides est sou- 
vent due à des corps de nature pulvérulente qui tra- 
versent l'espace céleste. Cette hypothèse a été énon- 
cée dès 1849 par M. Heiss dans son ouvrage sur les 
étoiles filantes périodiques. «On conçoit facilement, 
dit aussi M. Haidinger dans un intéressant Mémoire‘,
