Stereo-Photographie, welche die Unge- wipheit binokularen Sehens wiedergibt, verzeichnet, in Ver- bindung mit photogrammetrischen Zeichnungen, die Unter- schiede zwischen anscheinenden und tatsáchlichen Dimen- sionen in der Architektur und erkldrt eines Bildhauers Entwurfsünderungen vom kleinen Modell zum groben Werk. In its more unusual applications photogrammetry is an interdisciplinary science developing in two directions. Special conditions and geometries of photography require new instruments and adaptations of survey control and ad- justment computations to improve the efficiency and the ac- curacy of the photogrammetric record. Meanwhile, in the field of application, the interpretation of measured data provided by photogrammetry introduces new scientific method to all manner of studies. This article describes developments both of recording and interpretation of art and architecture in two photo- grammetric projects at the Ohio State University. The full advantages of stereophotogrammetry in recording and interpreting works of art and architecture are yet to be exploited. In February 1966, the Ohio State University was com- missioned, through Julian H. Whittlesey, architect and city planner, New York City, to record an archaic Greek statue of a youth, a "kouros," in the Cleveland Museum of Art for the researches of Dr. Ilse Kleemann of West Ger- many into the sculptural development of this early type of Greek statue. For carrying out this project we used a Galileo-Santoni phototheodolite designed for architec- tural surveys, with a variable focal length - recorded upon the photogrammetric plates - allowing focus upon subjects as near as 5.5 meters. Earlier experience with the problem of identifying the profiles of cylindrical forms suggested employing auxili- ary equipment which would permit the plotting of the con- tours of the kouros completely to the true profile in orthographic projection without the need for more than two camera stations. With a grant from the Center for Ex- perimental Research in the Arts at the Ohio State Univer- sity we designed and the Engineering Experiment Station of the University constructed what may be called a contour line projector.
