REMOTE SENSING APPLICATIONS FOR GSOECOLOGICAL STUDIES IN THE HIGH MOUNTAIN
ENVIRONMENT
Harold Haefner
University of Zurich, Switzerland
ABSTRACT
Data acquisition, interpretation and organization for geoecological
studies in high mountains are discussed for two test sites (Dischma-Valley
and Grevasalvas, Grisons, Switzerland). For mapping and inventories of the
various surface features and its changes a combination of several remote sen
sing systems is required. The orthophoto proved as the best general data base
for a gridcell collection of the coded and quantified data in a computerized
geographical information system. Only a long term and continuous observation
and measurement of data guarantees good geoecological results. Examples of
mapping and inventories of fast changing surface features such as snow and
land-use demonstrate the arrangement of the different data-sets and the
possibilities of data-outputs and correlations.
riations rapides.
