- 515 - CANADIAN REMOTE SENSING - REGIONAL CENTRES Victor Zsilinszky Ontario Centre for Remote Sensing Ministry of Natural Resources Toronto, Canada ABSTRACT The furthering of applied remote sensing in Canada is based on the concept that the federal government is responsible for a continuing space and high-altitude airborne data acquisition and dissemination program, while the provincial governments are to contribute by putting that data into full use on a regional basis. In view of this concept, brief background infor mation is given on the development and status of the national program, and a status review is prepared on the provincial activities. The uneven provincial commitments and contributions to the application of remote sensing are examined and hints for improvement are offered. RESUME LA TELEDETECTION AU CANADA - CENTRES REGIONAUX La poursuite de la télédétection appliquée au Canada est fondée sur le principe que la responsabilité d'un programme spatial permanent incombe au gouvernement fédéral, de même que celle de recueillir et de diffuser les données sur l'atmosphère à haute altitude; quant aux gouvernements provin ciaux, leur contribution consisterait à pleinement utiliser ces données à l'échelle régionale. Compte tenu du principe énoncé ci-dessus, on donne en bref quelques informations générales portant sur le développement du programme national et on en a fait le bilan actuel, par ailleurs, un rapport a été préparé sur les activités des provinces. On a analysé l'inégalité des engagements et des contributions des provinces concernant l'application de la télédétection et on suggère certaines améliorations. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG FERN-ERKUNDUNG IN KANADA - REGIONALE ZENTREN Die Förderung der angewanten Fern-Erkundung in Kanada stütz sich auf die Idee, dass die Bundesregierung für ein fort 1audfendes programm für die Erwerbung und Verbreitung von Weltraum und von der höheren läge der Atmosphäre ermittelden Daten zuständig ist, wahrend der Beitrag der Provinzregierungen dergestalt sein wird, dass sie auf regionaler Basis vollen Gebrauch von diesen Messwerten machen. In Anbetracht dieses Prinzips wird die allgemeine Information über die Entwicklung und den Stand des nationalen Programmes kurz Umrissen und ein Bericht über die provinziellen Tätigkeiten vorbereitet.
