5. A working group within commission VI of ISP is preparing a
bibliography on data processing programs to be reported to the
Lisbon congress. The group is led by Dr P. O. Fagerholm.
Organization and Personnel
The number of organizations engaged in photogrammetry has in
creased. Appendix 1 lists the major organizations. These employ about
300 persons who are directly engaged in photogrammetric work. The
number of persons who are partly connected with photogrammetric
activities is naturally much larger.
Research and Education
Research in Sweden so far has been conducted partly on the funda
mental level at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and
partly as applied research at the Royal Institute of Technology and
institutions and organizations actively engaged in photogrammetric ac
tivities.
The Photogrammetric Division of the Royal Institute of Technology
in Stockholm, took active part in the Ninth International Congress in
London and contributed papers and discussions in commissions num
ber I, II, III, IV and V. The head of the Division has been directed
by the International Society of Photogrammetry to continue and finish
the project concerned with the terminology of the theory of errors in
photogrammetry. The Swedish Society of Photogrammetry has also
entrusted the head of the Division with the task of leading a working
group on fundamental problems under Commission II. Further, the
Photogrammetric Division has worked out the principles of determining
tolerances for photogrammetric instruments and methods.
A number of investigations of the various stages of the basic opera
tions of photogrammetry have been carried out. Special mention may
be made of the tests conducted on the photographic material from the
Geographical Survey Office’s aerial cameras (Olands field), tests done
on the processing instruments, and tests on the cameras for various
purposes for example under-water photography. Much interesting
work has been done on the specialized application of photogrammetric
technique particularly in the fields of medicine and odontology. One
of the engineering applications that has been used is the photogram
metric measurement of road surfaces during times of breaking up the
frost.
Research activities at the Universities of Stockholm and Lund have
mainly been directed on photo interpretation and its methods in the
fields of geo-morphology, classification of soils etc.
The Geographical Survey Office continuously performs routine
tests of the aerial cameras.
