Koku Jigyo Co., Ltd.) participated to the tests 1) and 2), and the test 3) was
carried out by the Research Laboratory of Fuji Photo-Film Co., Ltd. .
II. Aerial photography and photographic treatment
As the principal aim of the test is the practical applicability of the new
photographic film, the following generous regulations are applied to the photo
graphy and photographic treatment.
1) For the test of static marks, aerial photographs were taken with the
flying heights of 1,500 m and 3,000 m.
2) The manipulation of aerial cameras and the photographic treatment
were executed according to the usage of each company. However D-76
developer was recommended for the easy comparison of negatives taken
by four companies. Befre the developing three test strips (optical
wedges) exposed by NSG (Nihon Shashin Gakkai: The Society of
Scientific Photography of Japan.) system were pasted at the top, middle
and end of each film roll to confirm the developing.
In total 324 photographs were taken from the end of March to the be
ginning of April 1693 with each 2 RC-8 and RMK 15/23. Then the following
conclusions were deduced as to the practical applicability of the photographic film.
a) No trouble was found by the routine manipulation of aerial cameras.
b) No trouble occurred by the routine photographic treatment. It dries
up faster than the TAC photographic film, but owing to its stiffness
film rolls must be kept binded with any string.
For the comparision of the new film to KOK and foreign made ones the
committee requested to answer to the questionaire concerning its photographic
and physical properties. These answers are summarised as Table 1.
1. Quality of the photographic emulsion
From the answers the photographic characteristics of the new film is judged
to be somewhat improved than KOK film.
From the table it will be perceived that the new photographic film is com
parable to foreign films from the practical stand point of view.
2. Physical properties
By the adoption of polyester base instead of tri-acetate cellurose (TAC)
one, following effects were expected.
1) Much improved curling property of the new film insures the better
flattness and decrease of local unevenness.
2) Less transparency of the polyester base is covered by thinner film
thickness resulting longer film is rolled on a reel.
3) The stiffness of the film may cause some difficulties for the camera
operation and the photographic treatment.
4) The ununiform coating, static marks, scratches etc. derive from the
nature of the emulsion or its coating processes.
The answers to the questinaire on the physical properties of the new
film are summarized on Table 2.
