automated system but a large step toward a self-optimizing system.
Additional degrees of automation and optimization can be added or
tried experimentally by the simple expedient of modifying the com
puter programs. In addition to its usefulness as a highly versatile
stereoplotter, the automated AP-2 is therefore an excellent vehicle
for further development of automatic mapping techniques.
