The fractiles, chi 2 p , are taken from a table of the chi 2 -distribution 
with the appropriate number of degrees of freedom. Results of tests 
and chi 2 -values can be seen in tables 1 and 2. In investigation 1 chi 2 
has lid. f., in investigation 2 chi 2 has 14 d. f. except for operator 2, 
6/3 1963, where chi 2 has 2 d. f. For less than 3 d. f. the test is poor. 
Discussion of the Results in Tables 1 and 2 
In investigation 1, half of the measurements are performed in such 
a manner that the standard deviations cannot be assumed to originate 
from the same theoretical value. This fact seems to be independent of 
the amount of alcohol. The assumptions underlying the variance ana
