PhotointerpretaHon
The application of photointerpretation in Spain began by
geologic studies, of mining and oil prospection and forest
exploitations, but its use increased so quickly that it was
considered feasible to organize a symposium to establish contact
between agencies and investigators who make use thereof;
it was held in Madrid from May 5-7, 1966; with a total
of 34 papers grouped into five sections: seven of Archeology
and Art; six of Botany and Edaphology; four of Geography;
17 of Geology and two of Photography. Since this date the
activity in this field has increased.
From the works being realized by this method the following
may be quoted:
Modernization of topographic maps at the Instituto Geográ
fico y Catastral and the Servicio Geográfico del Ejército.
Preparation of geological maps at the Instituto Geológico y
Minero. Preparation of soils maps in the Mapa Agronómico
Nacional and at the Instituto de Edafología. Prospection and
soils research at the Junta de Energía Nuclear. Instituto Geo
lógico y Minero and Servicio Geológico de Obras Públicas.
Vegetation studies at the Instituto de Investigaciones Agro
nómicas and at the Instituto Forestal de Investigaciones y Es-
periencias.
Soil utilization maps at the Universities of Zaragoza and
Pamplona.
And research studies made in the fields of Archaeology,
Botany and Geography.
Special applications
Photogrammetric compilation has been realized on artistic
monuments and there is a project to make up a catalogue
of national artistic monuments using Photograxnmetry for this
purpose.
Methods
It therefore follows that the cameras which both the private
companies or agencies devote to this activity are those which
can be purchased on the market i. e. size 24 X 24 cm. and
focáis of 150 and 8,8 cm.
We have recently initiated the use of “KODAK AERO-
NEG Color System” with the possibility of obtaining directly
glass plates, paper prints, or positive transparencies, both in
black and white or color. By using Aero-Neg we can obtain
a considerable increase in potential utilization of flights.
Control points and their determination are a function of the
results to be obtained and of the accuracy required. Beginning
with the works on a large scale where in order to secure a
precision the control points are determined model by model
and to excess, both in what is related to planimetry and to
altitude, we are gradually using, by lowering the scale, aero-
triangulation in blocks, by means of separate passes of a small
