COMMISSION V. SPECIAL APPLICATIONS OF PHOTOGRAMMETRY

A stereometric camera and Wild A40 plotter have been purchased by the 
South African Police for short range photography and subsequent plotting. 
The extraction of terrain data on punched cards using Wild A7 and A8 
plotters equipped with EK5 print-out and profiloscopes has been investi 
gated by the Department of Transport with promising results. 
The application of spatial methods and photogrammetry to geological 
mapping has been investigated at the University of the Wîtwatérsrand.

Education in photogrammetry is given at four universities and two 
technical colleges. The universities offer courses at both under 
graduate and post-graduate level to students in the following discip 
lines: Surveying, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geology, Geo 
graphy, Town & Regional Planning and Traffic Engineering. The 
technical colleges cater for technician training.
