Short Range Photogrammetry of Objects in Motion

Abstract 
Since 1949, the authors have been engaged in the application of Photogra mmetry 
to engineering projects. Af first, this technique was applied mainly to making 
large scale topographic maps for civil engineering work. 
Recently, the field of application of terrestrial photogrammetric techniques were 
remarkably developed as the means of precise measurement in many industrial 
fields by using short range photogrammetry. The 1.1. S.Stereo-Camera was

specialiy developed for measurement of objects in motion by the authors, This

paper deals with the characteristics, mechanism, instrumentations of the new 
camera and the techniques, and procedures and accuracy for the actual measure- 
ment of examples by this camera. 
l. Introduction 
Since 1949, the authors have been engaged in projects relating to research 
and development using the techniques of terrestrial photogrammetry as a tool for 
Precise measurement in three-dimension. Among these are included the applica- 
tion to making of large scale topographic maps at dam construction sites, the 
application to the automobile industry for obtaining body line drawings, deflection 
measurement of structures, measurement of national treasures, development of 
measurement techniques in the fields of medical, human engineering, dress make- 
up and so on. These research projects have techniques for the precise measurement 
of objects changing or constantly in motion. This paper deals with the outline of 
photogrammetry techniques which were overcome during the course of the studies 
pertaining to the status in question. First of all, the authors have developed the 
I.I. S,new stereo-camera for taking photos of objects which change momentarily.
