SUMMARY
The ever quickening trend towards computer -aided road
design has directed the attention of highway engineers to the value
of Photogrammetry in providing terrain information at a speed
and cost commensurate with the subsequent design process.
Some degree of mutual understanding by photogrammetrist
and engineer of each other's problems is essential if their alliance
is to prosper, since the success or failure of any computer-aided
project is largely dependent on the user's grasp of the process as
a whole.
This paper describes briefly the design process and the
photogrammetrist's role in that process, warns of some of the
pitfalls awaiting users of computer - aided systems, and attempts
to dispel the commoner misconceptions surrounding the technique.
