New Zealand
Flying is chiefly manual. A P4 compass is used with a Kollsman drift sight
and a Kollsman altimeter.
Sweden
I he aircraft is flown manually. Gyroscopic and magnetic compasses are
used with a Zeiss drift sight and a Kollsman altimeter.
Switzerland
The Beachcraft C45F is flown by automatic pilot. The Percival P54 is
flown manually. Gyro compasses are used. The drift sight is built into the
Wild RC-5 and RC-7 cameras. The altimeter used is the normal aircraft type.
United States of America
The U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey use automatic pilot. Other aircraft
are flown manually. Magnetic, flux gate, gyroscopic, and radio compasses are
used. Various types of drift sights are in service including gyro stabilized bomb-
sights. Barometric altimeters are in general use; radar altimeters are used by
the U.S.A.F. and the Coast and Geodetic Survey. The former also use a vario
meter. A Solar Navigator is in use by the Air Force and has been used by the
Coast and Geodetic Survey. The latter also use sextants and astro-compasses.
Electronic aids used by the Air Force are a bombsight navigation system,
Shoran, and radar with automatic course computers and plotters.
