At 3.35 p.m. the floor was given to Mr. Perc
"Stereo-Maps". Following this paper Dr. Burckhardt
tion and indicated that trials have been made in Germany of such stereoscopic
photo maps. The impossibility of obtaining good results: in countries of high
relief, such as the Alps, has been encountered due to the difference in scale.
There were the skrinkages in the depths and the exaggeration of the high areas.
The last trials made with most modern objectives have shown that it is more
useful to fly high enough for all the corresponding surfaces of one portion of
the map to be covered by a single photograph and with a very large overlap so
that one may choose among the photographs those that give at the same time
good stereoscopic relief and a correct perspective impression.
Mr. Percy Tham replied that he had never heard of these trials but the
method being used in Sweden was independent of the relief of the ground.
To a question from Mr. Poivilliers about the method of making these
photo maps, Mr. Percy Tham regretted that he could not furnish any infor-
mation regarding the method. Mr. Poivilliers then explained his regrets that
communications of this kind had been presented without any indication of the
procedures employed and that the authors refused to give any explanation on
the grounds of secrecy.

of Commission II to be presented at the plenary session of the International
Society. The meeting commenced at 1.28. The President read the proposition
drawn up by the French delegation for the organization of international com-
petition. Mr. Harry requested the floor at 1.35. He declared himself in agree-
ment with the principals of research on standards but did not let the French
proposition go too far? Could not one be satisfied with classification of plot-
ting machines as large scale, small scale, and air triangulation? Mr. Poivilliers
responded pointing out the difficulty of establishing the classification. Bv
whom would the supervision of tilt be granted? Besides the classification will
apply only to the precision and not to the production or the kind of work. Mr.
Poivilliers explained. several foreseeable difficulties in carrying out the French
proposition, taking the photographs, assemblying the plotting machines, selec-
tion of the place for the trials and organization of the inspection, but all of
