Switzerland:
Professor Dr. M. Zeller has made experiments on the use of photogram-
metric methods to determine movements, related in his publication »Ste-
reophotogrammetrie und Bewegungsstudien», Industrielle Organisation
1950/4, E.T.H. Zürich.
Question No. 8:
What is your opinion on the importance of X-ray photogrammetry?
Austria:
X-ray photogrammetry is certainly of great importance. To make an
extensive use of this important branch of phetogrammetry possible at the
X-ray institutions, comparatively simple methods and instruments are re-
quired. Nearly the same remarks can be made for the use of micro photo-
grammetry (light and electron microscope) for the purpose of surface
and material tests and structure research. By experience it is always diffi-
cult to force thrcugh a measuring method in scientific research of whatever
domain, when special knowledge is required for its use.
Belgium:
Belgium has got no information concerning X-ray photogrammetry.
France:
Perfection of surgical methods, allowing direct visibility of all bone
and intestinal regions, has resulted in more and more limited use of
X-ray photogrammetry to find out positions and directions. Anatomic
knowledge of morphology and topography has appeared to be the most
suitable guide for medical purposes.
The anatomic treatment of injuries and foreign bodies is best made by
common stereoscopic viewing of two pictures. This accounts for the lack
of progress in the attempts to improve the instruments for locating foreign
bodies.
Only the pelvimetric X-ray or the measuring of the feminine basin, is
still of a notable obstetrical interest.
X-ray tomographic methods are still in current use in spite of the cri-
ticism to which they have been exposed. Linear trajectory instruments
(Tomography) are common, thanks to their easy handling. Spiral or
epicycloidal trajectory instruments have been taken up again by various
French constructors. One of these currently constructs an instrument with
horizontal cut, based on a principle, presented by Lacroix at the same time
as by Vallebona in 1947.
