Core loss data from 60 to 2400 c. and a.c. permea-
bility at 60 c. for oriented Si steel strip 0.002 and
0.005 in. thick produced by Littman's technique (U.S.
2,473,158), and d.c. hysteresis and permeability
curves for wound cores of each thickness are pre-
sented. Strip cold-rolled from a commercial heat
of Va Permendur containing residual Al and from a
laboratory heat gave quite different results when re-
crystallized in a magnetic field, X-ray diffraction
studies of Va Permendur showed random orientation
of well-developed grains in hot-rolled sheet and
marked preferred orientation of very fine grains in
cold-rolled strip. Such materials made from a sin-
