Practical application of the numerical adjustment
of the relative orientation
Hallert has demonstrated that the accuracy of relative orientation can be
considerably increased through computation of corrections to the elements of
orientation from residual parallaxes, measured in 6 and 9 points respectively.
The formulas involve adjustment of supernumerary observations according to
the method of the least squares.
On the basis of these findings the author has designed a computation form,
making rapid calculation of all types of orientation possible. The coefficients
involved in the calculations and dependent on the model in question are obtained
by means of a nomogram.
Experience has shown that the mean square of the residual parallaxes in 9
points after 2 to 3 iterations amounts to approximately 0.01 mm in the picture.
Through correction of the ^/-setting only with the average value of the residual
parallaxes, this figure is somewhat decreased. The standard error of the y-parallax
measurements according to the adjustment procedure does normally not exceed
0.006 mm.
Comparison between the standard error and the mean square value shows if
an additional iteration is required.
A permanent record of the orientation procedure, thus obtained, is valuable.
in 6 bez.

Device for measurements of parallaxes
The device for parallax measurements, described in this paper, is, funda
mentally, a type of parallax wedge. The two non-parallel lines of the wedge are
substituted by two rows of dots, which, however, are no straight lines as in the
wedge. The point rows are arranged into 4 rows of U-shaped point groups, each
