Activities and Products
Kodak started with a new idea—in April 1880. George
Eastman was sure that everybody would be able to
take photos, if it only could be done in a simpler and
cheaper way. Today his enterprise is a gigantic orga
nization which produces all sorts of photographic
products, but which also does a large business (nearly
40 per cent of its total) in cellulose products, chemi
cals, and non-photographic equipment, for the Ameri
can defence program and other customers.
In the United States alone, the Eastman Kodak Co.
employs about 54,000 people, of whom about 37,000
work in Rochester. As a whole, Eastman Kodak em
ploys about 74,000 persons. Of Eastman’s photographic
production, only 1/3 is now used by amateurs. The
industries, the professional photographers, the commer
cial enterprises, and the scientists take the rest. The
colossal Kodak enterprise has a position of almost
unchallenged supremacy in photographic x4merica; it
builds this position partly on the good-will of the
Kodak name, but also an unequalled program of photo
graphic research—in the research laboratory alone,
Eastman employs more than 600 persons.

Exhibit
The exhibit is designed to illustrate the complete
range of Ilford films, plates, papers, and processing
chemicals available for photogrammetric work, from
the taking of the actual aerial photographs to the
completion of a finished map. The main display,
which is shown by courtesy of the Director of Mili
tary Survey, War Office, is accordingly devoted to a
sectionalized demonstration of the fourteen stages
involved, and the Ilford materials used, in preparing
an Air Ministry map in twelve colours from the origi
nal aerial negatives. Other examples of the uses of
Ilford materials in aerial photography are illustrated
by a comprehensive display of enlargements from neg
atives on Ilford Hyperpan Aerial and Ilford HP3
Aerial films.
Activities and Products

The AGA Geodimeter
The AGA Geodimeter is a revolutionary distance
surveying device and the result of many years re
search in the electronic-optical field by Dr. Erik Berg
strand in an effort to determine a better value for
the velocity of light. Making use of this universally
accepted constant, the present models — NASM-2A
and NASM-3 — are capable of measuring distances
of up to 45 km. inside an hour with an accuracy of
within two parts in a million. The NASM-2A is the
more accurate of the two models with a built-in cal
ibration system, while the lighter NASM-3, although
less accurate and with a lower range, is well suited
for surveying in rugged terrain where portability is
essential. Both instruments can be used for a variety
of surveying tasks such as base line measuring, trian
gulation, photogrammetry etc.
Activities and Products
At present a world-wide concern with plants and fac
tories in 24 countries, AGA was founded by Nobel
Prize winner, Gustaf Dalén, whose ingenious inven
tions enabled lighthouses to function unattended for
long intervals by greatly reducing gas consumption.
Subsequent development has found AGA manufac
turing gas and electric beacons and other navigational
devices as well as a variety of equipment for gas
welding, medical use, sound film, electronic and op
tical instruments plus a complete line of radio and
television apparatus. More recently AGA has emerged
as a leading producer of electro-optical precision in
struments such as anamorphic cinema projectors with
stereoscopic sound and was the original producer of
the land surveying instrument called »Geodimeter»
now in extensive use for surveying the world over.
