Exhibit
This is the first firm in Sweden to use advanced pho-
togrammetry in road planning. A stretch of Swedish
National Highway 5, which is soon to be reconstructed,
has been selected as an illustration of the work of
Kjessler & Mannerstrâle. The present road runs along
Lake Landvetter on a narrow strip of land, and on the
other side a mountain rises steeply 30 to 40 metres,
reaching a height of 100 metres. The road carries
very heavy traffic, which in combination with the
terrain creates severe obstacles to terrestrial surveying.
The work has been based on aerial photographs taken
from heights of 4,000 and 650 metres. The exhibited
maps and drawings are plotted on scales varying from
1:2,000 to 1:200.
Activities and Products
Ivjessler & Mannerstrâle is a firm of consulting engi
neers active mainly in civil engineering and architec
ture. The staff numbers about 170.
This firm has had its own mapping department for a
long time. The task of this department is partly to
supply the other departments with maps and partly
carry out mapping assignments. The company did
photogrammetric work for many years with the aid
of hired instruments. In 1955, a Wild A7 autograph
was purchased. Kjessler & Mannerstrâle’s photogram
metric activity is devoted chiefly to drawing large-
scale maps for projecting roads and to reconnoitring
alternative routes directly in the stereomodels. Photo
interpretation and measuring of profiles are essential
features of the reconnaissance work. The photos are
ordered from the Geographical Survey Office.
