DECCA NAVIGATOR
The Decca Navigator System
Purpose: Aid to navigation, tracking, fixation.
Essential Units: For survey use the Decca chain comprises three port
able Transmitting-stations giving a range of 30-300 miles depending
on accuracy requirements, size of stations etc. Each user carries a
receiver giving fix data in terms of two dial readings which are plotted
on a specially gridded chart.
Receivers are supplied in versions for air, marine and ground use. The
Flight Log and marine Track Plotter, driven by the receiver, record
and display continuously the position and track. A Two-Range version
of the system is available for marine use, employing two stations ashore
to which the shipborne equipment measures the direct distances.
Applications: Airborne photogrammetry, geophysical survey and re
connaissance; hydrography and marine oil exploration; terrestrial geo
physical survey and reconnaissance; special projects, e. g. calibration of
air navaids, cablelaying, air and marine speed and manoeuvrability trials.
