The large scale maps have been produced mainly in connection with town
planning, and the maps of medium scale have been used for regional planning.
The photographic mosaics have been purchased by mining enterprises
for geological control purposes, and by forestry district councils and private
forest owners, for planning of forestry.
Air photographs in the sale of 1 : 15.000, with enlargements in the scale
of 1 : 5.000, have to a large extent been used in forest inventory.
Wideroe’s Flyveselskap og Polarfly A/S has carried out air survey for
the following Government Departments: The Department of hydro-power
development, The Department of Roads, The Department of State Railways,
The Department of Agriculture and Forestry, The Department of Regional
Planning, The Department of Geological Survey, as well as for the county and
district councils.
In 1951 and 1952 the company took part in the Anglo-Swedish-Norwegian
expedition, as well as in the earlier expedition of 1936, when the Norwegian
sector of the Antarctic was first photographed from the air.
Wideroe’s Flyveselskap og Polarfly A/S has a fleet of 15 aircraft, a
staff of 250 men, and an annual budget exceeding 7 mill. Norw. kroner (equals
$1,000,000 or £350.000).
