Also the solar triangulation makes use of the correlations, precisely
of those among the parameters x, o, q. Following the type of instrumenta]
triangulation, so called ‘‘ at free x ?, in which the approximate x, initially
introduced, undergoes suecessives variations during the parallaxes elimi-
nation process, those correlations, established by well known formulas,
are utilized for the computation of the corrections to be applied to the
parameters «o and o parallelly to. each variation of x. The influence of
those correlations is therefore direetly expressed by instrumental cor-
rections, earlier then to utilize them, at posteriori, during adjustment,
Solar triangulation may be carried out, too, following the type of
instrumental connection so called ‘“at bound x” to which this paper
is referred, in particular. By this proceeding, each new photograph is
introduced with a very approximate x got from a connection carried
out beforehand, linearly adjusted, and with the values of c, o, correspond-
ing to the x of the photograph, computed by means of the geometric
relations which are at the background of solar method. By this, the
above mentioned correlations, typical of the solar method, are intro-
duced. After that, the definitive connection has the actual properties
of the connections using the base-component bz for the models formation,
without, in this case, the systematic influence of the Earth’s curvature,
however.
Those values of x, o, o can still have, during this phase, some little
variations requested for the complete elimination of the parallaxes in
each model. It is in this moment that Roelofs’ method may be asked
for help. Roelofs’ method takes, indeed, into account the correlations
which arise between the © quasi observations " by the fact that they
are dependent on the same initial observations of parallaxes ; under
this point of view the Roelofs’ method of adjustment may be regarded
as an achievement of the correlation support principle already applied
by the solar triangulation in its instrumental process. But, as we
have already mentioned, the two groups of correlations: the typical
ones of the solar triangulation between x», o, q, and those considered by
Roelofs, are of a substantially different nature. |
The first ones are indeed connected to the geometrical essence of
the solar method, whereas the last ones are only dependent on the factor
*elimination of parallaxes? and.depend, therefore, mainly on the type
of survey (foeal length, flying height, triangulation instrument, observer
eco. ).
