Recording of the statoscopie data.
Two technical experts sent by Zeiss and the E. T. H. Institute of Zurich respecti-
vely cooperated with the French experts to prepare and give the finishing touches
for the flights’ equipment and behaviour.
The French I.G.N. accepted to bear the expense of all positive reproductions on
plates and paper to be distributed to the work participants together with all data
concerning the cameras and auxiliary instruments employed, the list of control-points
(about 250) and relative descriptions.
The photographie material obtained through these flights, though remaining a
property of the Organizations bearing most of the expenses, was however put at the
disposal of those intending to take part in these trials, giving a pledge of bridging
their research to a conclusion, and simply against refunding the mere expenses of re-
production.
3. — PARTICIPANTS TO CoMMISSION 111 EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH AND THEIR WORK-
ING PROGRAMS
The availability of such interesting photographic material; the essentially expe-
rimental aim of these tests and the absolute sense of freedom of movement, drew
around Commission III experimental research the interest of many centres. In the
Autumn 1959, namely when the polygon completed, the participation to Commission
III experimental research had reached the number of 7 Centres, each one of whom
had more or less, precisely outlined its own intended aims.
Unfortunately, the time left in hand was very short, and the hope of bringing
along to the London Congress a series of abundant results, was diminishing from day
to day. However, and above all due to generous collaboration of the French I.G.N.
ever so ready to help for the good success of these tests, the work of sending out ma-
terial went on uninterruptedly, overcoming sometimes great difficulties, and was thus
completed in the Spring of 1960.
The working Centres that undertook to carry out Commission IIT's experimental
researches, are shown in Table n. 8. In the same table there are listed for each Centre
the photographie material and the proceeding method they commicated to use.
As already said, the distribution phase of the material, required a longer time
than thought.
The material sent to each Centre includes:
1) A series of positive copies formed of 190 plates about.
2) A series of positive copies on paper: 294 known points have been identified
on them and numbered from 1 to 300.
