COMMISSION I 
In our country that is developing rapidly,rate of utiliza- 
tion of maps and aerial photography and the need for these are 
increasing from year to year.Establishments commissioned to 
obtain aerial photography have been organized and equipped in 
such a way to supply this need.Presently: ® Dornier Do 28 ’ 
B Dornier Do 28 B, and 8 Beechoraft (AT-11 and D 18-S) aircraft 
are used to obtain photography and 8 Dornier Do 28 D, and € 
Islander BN 2A aircraft are being purchased. 
In taking photography: 18cm x 18cm and 23cm x 23cm format 
cameras with focal lengths 11.5cm to 21cm are used,which are 
products of Zeiss and Wild.Beside normal black and white photo- 
graphy,colour-photography is also carried out for special pur- 
pose Studies in forestry and soil surveys. 
Parallel to the increasing production capacity, the photo- 
laboratories have been enlarged and reinforced by new devices 
such as the "Temperature Controlled Sink"and the "Electronic 
Contact Printer", 
Flight season for obtaining aerial photography in Turkey 
starts on 15-April and ends on l5-October.Planning for the 
flight mission is carried out in conjunction with the 36 years 
average and extreme meteorological values obtained from the 
meteorological bulletin of the country and moreover,in accor- 
dence with the specific work to be made upon aerial photography, 
the features of terrain and vegetation,whether the trees are 
decidous or not, the morphological structure of terrain and 
several other factors that will affect the mission. 
The flight plans are prepared from the 1:25 000 and 
1:100 000 scale maps of the country,which have been totally 
completed. 
At the flight section,originally mapping engineers (at the 
same time officers in the army) are employed who have been 
selected and trained for the purpose.Such personnel are trained 
as navigators too,beside being trained as mapping engineers and 
pilots.Hence in aerial photographic missions, the second pilot 
functions as a navigator at the same time. 
COMMISSION II 
For plotting purposes,instruments almost all of which are 
of first and secend order are employed.These instruments are 
mostly products of Zeiss and Wild.The ages of these instruments 
which have been purchased at different times,vary between 1 and 
20 years.Older instruments are utilized more for revision and 
1:25 000 scale plotting purposes or are set apart for the task 
of training.
