HATFIELD POLYTECHNIC, Dept.of Civil Engineering and Construction
An element of photogrammetric instruction is included in the CNAA degree,
and the HND civil engineering courses.
HUNTING SURVEYS LTD
Education and training of photogrammetric and drawing office staff moved
into a new era with the advent of the Ordinary and Higher National Certificate
courses in survey and cartography. These courses have been integrated into
a career structure which starts with the school leaver and progresses through
a two year course of day-release schooling. First impressions are that the
trainees will reach an effective standard of proficiency well inside the two year
target.
HYDROGRAPHIC DEPARTMENT Ministry of Defence (Navy)
Only basic training continues to be carried out in the department.
INSTITUTE OF GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES
During the period under review geologists from Burmah, Equador, Laos,
and Sudan have been trained in photogeological techniques. Geological
draughtsmen from Ghana and Malaysia have also been trained in geological map
production including the use of simple photogrammetric instruments.
KINGSTON COLLEGE OF FURTHER EDUCATION
The college teaches photogrammetry as an important part of its ONC course
in cartography. The course is on a part day basis, and is patronised mostly by
students from the Directorate of Overseas surveys. Prior to 1967 the course
was for a college certificate in cartography with only a limited photogrammetry
content, but from September 1970 this gave place to the new Ordinary National
Certificate in surveying, cartography and planning and an extensive amount of
Photogrammetry has been taught. From September 1971 the college is
offering the Higher National Certificate in cartography with associated units of
study in photogrammetry. ;
KINGSTON POLYTECHNIC. School of Civil Engineering
A small amount of photogrammetry is taught to students studying surveying.
The school has a three projector multiplex, stereoscopes, slotted template
equipment, and a radial line plotter.
LANCHESTER POLYTECHNIC. Faculty of Engineering
Photogrammetry is covered during the surveying lectures for a civil
engineering course. The subject is only dealt with in broad outline, and includes
exercises using stereoscopes, parallax bar, and a radial line plotter.
