The M Sc in photogrammetry has become established during the period and
so far eleven students have been successful in obtaining this degree. The M Sc.
in surveying also involves the study of some photogrammetry.
The Faculty of Science in the University of London has implemented a course
unit degree system. In theory, students from any admitting department are
frée to choose to study any courses which are available within the faculty. Two
of these courses, normally studied in the second and third undergraduate years,
involve the teaching of photogrammetry. Previously these courses were only
available to geography undergraduates; they still form the necleus, but students
of mathematics, physics and geology have been attracted to these courses under
the new system. The courses are run on an intercollegiate basis. A course
unit degree is also to be introduced in the Faculty of Engineering in 1972.
MANCHESTER UNIVERSITY, INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY,
Dept of Civil and Structural Engineering :
Photogrammetric instruction is mainly for undergraduates in their final
year projects.
* NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE UNIVERSITY. Dept.of Surveying
Surveying may be offered as a subject for the joint honours degree in
association with geography, mathematics, or physics. The surveying course
for this degree includes photogrammetry. Postgraduate students in
photogrammetry can be accepted for PhD or M Sc. degrees, particularly if it
is intended to study non-topographic photogrammetry.
ORDNANCE SURVEY
The Ordnance Survey has introduced a training scheme to provide selected
members of its survey and drawing staff with broad based technical education at
a more advanced level than the initial training given to the new entrants to the
department. For more senior staff, a course has been designed which includes
at least 5 weeks study of photogrammetry. For the younger staff, the new
Ordinary National Certificate (ONC) and Higher National Certificate (HNC)
courses in surveying and cartography are now available. At ONC level the cours?
includes the broad principles underlying surveying, cartography and
photogrammetry. Students who progress to the HNC level will be able to choose
from a number of optional subjects, at an advanced level, of which
photogrammetry is one.
The department now has a small photogrammetric training section within its
training school to give "ab initio" training to plotting machine operators before
they are allocated to production work. The instruments available include one
Wild A5 Autograph, two Santoni Stereosimplex and one multiplex.
PAISLEY COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY. Dept.of Civil Engineering,
Building, and Surveying
The department teaches photogrammetry to civil engineering students in the
third year of the ordinary B Sc. course and the fourth year of the honours B Sc.
course, with tutorials and practicals and twelve hours of lectures; also to
