NATIONAL REPORT TO THE XII INTERNATIONAL
CONGRESS OF PHOTOGRAMMETRY
Ottawa 1972
Reported by K, Rainesalo
Introduction
The significance of photogrammetry has remarkably increased in
Finland since 1968, This increase has been more in vigor of re-
search and new applications but partly also in number of instru-
ments and annually measured photographs. Extraordinarily expan-
sive has been the use and education of photo interpretation as
well as the non-topographic photogrammetry,
The main part of research has been in aerotriangulation and exa-
mination of picture quality. The research is carried out in the
first place at the Institute of Photogrammetry, Helsinki Univer-
sity of Technology, but also in other institutions and governmen-
tal organizations as well as in private engineering offices,
Among the governmental organizations using photogrammetry the
most important one is of course the National Board of Survey,
Remarkable mappers are also the Topographic Service of the De-
fense Forces and the National Board of Public Roads and Water-
