Production of maps
The main product in photogrammetric mapping by the National
Board of Survey is the basic map. The scale of the stereoplot-
ting of photomosaic is 1:10 000, The map is being drawn at
1:10 000 and printed at 1:20 000, In the very near future the
whole country will be covered and the work will only continue
as renewing of this map. In the most northern part of Finland
(Lapland) the basic map is compiled by the Topographic Service
of the Defense Forces directly at the scale 1:20 000, The out-
put of the base has been more than 10 000 square kilometers a
year e
Ihe National Board of Public Roads and Waterways is stereoplot-
ting large scale maps for its own use not quite 1000 km“ a year,

Private engineering offices are stereoplotting maps at large
scales for local authorities and industrial employers, The out-
put of the photogrammetric 1:500 map by these companies is about
100 km“ a year, The production of the 1:2000 map is correspond-

800 km“ in:1971.
The Finnmap company has produced orthophotomaps for nearly
1000 km“ yearly, This company was as before during the report
period the biggest in foreign mapping. In 1971 the company
founded together with Soil and Water Ltd the work-
partnership Finnmap-Soilwater for mapping of developing countries
and got the first big order in this line.
Non -topographic photogrammetry
The special photogrammetry for non-topographic purposes has ra-
