Adjustment for discrepancies in the z-coordinates between con-
necting models must also be taken into account as mentioned
above. Another systematic error caused by the irradation haloe-
effect can essentially deterioate the geometrical quality and
therefore terrain details are recommended as vertical control
instead of signals.
Mr Pryor (23) has, however, presented principles for size, form
and colour of signals for the control points, which are not
supposed to originate any irradation-haloe-effect.
Result of the Final Design.
The result of the final design of the roadbody, along the cen-
terline that has been designed in the previous stage, consists,
in part of detailed data on longitudinal and transverse pro-
files, detailed maps over areas for intersections, interchanges,
bridges, etc. Data on road construction and economic informa-
tion such as calculation of cut and fill, sub-base, mass dispo-
sition, drainage, setting out, total cost of construction also
are part of the result of the final design presentation, but
they are not discussed in this report.
For further details on the practical application of photogram-
metry to Highway Design reference is made to the Bibliography
See page
2. A review of the development of the application of Photo-_
grammetry to Highway Design in the period 1968-72.
The greatest steps forward in the development of the application
of photogrammetry to Highway Design were, as stated above, taken
around 1960. During the recent years the methods and systems
have got a wider introduction in different countries and they
have also been improved. There remain, however, still great many
countries where the modern aids are not used due to some reason.
One of the main reasons is lacking knowledge of the system of
the application. Also the introduction of big computers in the
system might have had a breaking effect on the use of the new
aids.
