Very simple alignment of stereo-orthophotos re-
places usual relative and absolute orientation of aerial
photographs on conventional stereo-plotters.

from stereo-orthophotos
Since the results of plotting are. seen by the operator in
the binoculars (the field of view covers a large portion
of the stereo-image) the quality and the completeness of
the plot is being checked continuously by the operator,
without interrupting the plotting operation. This partly
explains the unique efficiency of the plotting operation
on this instrument.
5. General considerations and discussion
It should be obvious from this review, that each
instrumental system has its characteristics, its advanta-
ges and its limitations. - A decision as to which system
should be given preference cannot be made without care-
fully considering the purpose and scope of the surveying
and mapping work, the scale of the maps, the human and
financial resources available, the organization of the
mapping work and its structure and so forth. Different
approaches could be taken by a centrally organized map-
ping agency concerned exclusively with conventional topo-
