M, le professeur Van der Weele, Président de la Commission IV, nous avait chargés
d'animer le groupe de travail IV-3 concernant le domaine de 1a méthodologie et de l'automation
en photogrammétrie.
Lors du symposium de Delft, du 8 au 10 septembre 1970, nous avons présenté un compte
rendu et un programme de travail intitulé : "Contribution de la photogrammétrie au traitement
automatique des données". M, Pétrie présentait alors, dans un domaine trés conjoint, une étude
sur "la digitalisation de la photogrammétrie : recueil des informations pour le traitement des
données". (Photogrammetry digitizing imput for data processing). Finalement des résolutions
étaient rédigées pour le groupe de travail IV -3 :

IV-3: Il est recommandé d'effectuer l'étude des moyens et des méthodes permettant l'enregis-
trement aussi simultané que possible, au cours de 1a restitution, de toutes les informations né-
cessaires à l'ensemble des plans et cartes.
Il est recommandé en particulier d'étudier les meilleurs moyens d'associer couramment
les différentes formes graphiques, numériques et orthophotographiques de la photogrammétrie.
Cette recommandation a été présentée à Delft, en septembre 1970, comme suit :

It is recommended to study more in detail the following points.
A - Hardware
1/ For the digitizing of existing maps and plans we have to study the following fields of application :
a) the coded digital point registration,
b) the continuous digitizing of lines by using electro-static or other systems.
2/ Comparative studies about the execution of work (price and organization) using :
a) small scientific calculators connected to the plotting machines,
b) a large computer following the new configuration integrated with the plotting system
itself.
B - Methodology
1/ Density of topographic and cadastral details necessary in a terrain data bank and density of
points and lines to be digitized in relation to the graphic output.
2/ Hybride photogrammetric systems : methods for the mathematical combination of old and new
plans,
3/ The place of orthophotography in the field of automatic photogrammetry.
C - Coordination with other organizations
It is recommended that the reporter on this subject directs the necessary contacts with :
a) the appropriate commission of the FIG
b) the commission of the ICA treating automatic cartography
c) the commission II of the ISP,
