With help from our institute, two photogrammetric jobs have been solved during the last
two years. One task was measuring the surface turbulence in streaming water [2]. This
measuring task was carried out by the staff of the Hydraulic laboratory. The Technical University
of Denmark, with 4 Linhof Technica cameras. Our institute was involved only in the measuring
of the control points, calibration of the cameras and the program-writing. All other photogramme-
tric tasks were carried out by the hydraulic professionals, who had no previous photogrammetric
experience.
In another work, two architects have been developing and using a numerical
photogrammetric technique for measuring historical buildings for restaurating purposes. Especially
in the last case, the interpretation problems were so difficult, that only an architect was able to
compilate the pictures.
Both tasks were compilated in the small stereocomparator Zeiss Jena 1818. Having
overcome the problem of the expensive metric cameras by using ordinary cameras, and evading
the need of an extensive photogrammetric education by letting a computer program solve the
problems of orientation and error-finding, only the problem of finding a wider choice of suitable
stereocomparators remains.
It is only to hope, that the instrument manufacturers in the coming years will take up
this problem and build a small stereocomparator with sufficient accuracy (3 to 5 microns) and
with a simple automatic coordinate registration equipment.
