PROJECT
HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT OF PHOTOGRAMMETRY
Dr. Karl G. Lofstrom
Helsinki
In accordance with the recommendation of the XIth Congress of ISP in Lausan-
ne in 1968 the historical development of photogrammetry in various countries
is to be investigated and described. During the ISP Symposium of Commission
VI in Bratislava 1970 and later on, some possibilities how to realize this
work had been discussed. The agreement was achieved that the Working Group
HISTORY should prepare the definite project of the work and submit it to the
XIIth Congress of ISP.
INTRODUCTORY COMMENTS
A work with the title HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT OF PHOTOGRAMMETRY should be
a logical, uniform and clear synthesis of historical facts and technical de-
velopment of photogrammetry in allof its spheres of application in all count-
ries. The chiefeditor of this paper has to be a person of merit with proper know-
ledge of that matter to whom all information, as complete as possible, will
be given, The editor, in possible cooperation with some associate editors,
would elaborate the work during longer period as a full time job.
It will be quite difficult to find a qualified editor really interested in
the upper mentioned task. Financing a work of amount of about 500 pages
with a possible number of 1000 to 2000 copies in each of the three ISP offi-
cial languages will be difficult as well. For the achievement of such a work
several years will be needed and only then the photogrammeters can benefit
from it.
Having taken into consideration these facts and having used discussion and
exchange of ideas we reached the following suggestion, We will endeavour to
attain the final result by the following stages :
collecting the required original information from all member countries
prepared according to the similar rules and in such a form that will ease
further editorial work;
- assemblage and publication of this documentation, prepared and printed by
each member country separately, giving a description of the development
of native photogrammetric methods and instruments of practical significance
and
- elaboration and publication of the final work on history.
