OPTIMIZING SENSITOMETRIC DATA FOR COLOR
AND BLACK-AND-WHITE AERIAL FILM
A K-17C Cartographic Camera is being modified to furnish two sensitometric gray scales and one density spot
for each aerial exposure frame. The subsequent data will be used to perform research for establishing more
accurate exposures, gammas, processing monitors, incident light characteristics, and color balance control.
Sensitometry of black-and-white and color aerial film is, in part, being performed by exposing sensitometric
gray scales on the leader and trailer ends of the exposed film just prior to processing and are used primarily
to adjust processing. These gray scales are not formed with light of the same spectral characteristics of the
exposing light and preserving the initial exposure conditions through density data recordings. The density spot
recorded by integrated scene reflectance will be used to determine integrated color densities and subject
brightness.

CAMERA CALIBRATION USING A TEST FIELD
The Seglinge test field built by the Institute of Photogrammetry of the Helsinki University of Technology covers
an area of about 2 x 2 km . All target discs are fixed onto the bed rock with bolts. The point net is shaped into
equilateral triangles of 170 m. About 2/3 of the points were levelled. The coordinates of 18 points were
determined by geodetic triangulation with a standard error m,, , = * 4 mm. The coordinates of the other
points were determined by analytical block triangulation using bundle adjustment. With the aid of geodetic
check points, it was verified that the standard error of the photogrammetric photogrammetric coordinates +2
cm. This means 2.4 jm on the calibration scale of 1:8500.
Besides a quarter of the test field has been provided with additional points to form a separate test field for the
calibration of cameras on the scale of 1:4000.
These test fields have been photographed with several cameras. The images with the great number of points
measured with a comparator have been oriented to the known point field. The results give information of the
geometrical quality of the images as well as of the error sources affecting the aerial photos.

A NEW RANGE OF WILD HIGH-PERFORMANCE
LENSES FOR PHOTOGRAMMETRY
Wild Heerbrugg now offers a large range of high-performance lenses for photogrammetry and photointerpre-
tation, developed by Dr. Bertelle. For the RC10 Universal Film Camara there exists now a range of 5 different
interchangeable lens-cones, all with a format of 23 cm x 23 cm. Four of these are recent developments and are
described in some detail in the paper. Two are wide-angle lenses (f = 15 cm) and two are normal-angle (f =
30 cm).
Another new lens has also been developed for special purposes, but not for the RCIO. This lens has a focal
length of 8 cm, an aperture of f/3.5 and format 11.5 cm x 11.5 cm.
