The interest of the Japanese photogrammetrists seems to be concentrated on
remote sensing. At present almost all speeches at the annual meeting of the Japan
Society of Photogrammetry are related to remote sensing.
A comprehensive study of remote sensing is conducted by the Science and
Technology Agency and more than half of the members of the committee of this
study are the members of the Japan Society of Photogrammery.
As it is mentioned in the introduction, the Remote Sensing Technology Center
of Japan was established in 1975. The aim of its fundation is to conduct basic and
comprehensive research and development concerning remote sensing to probe the
resources and phenomena of the earth by using artificial satellite and aeroplane and
to disseminate the results in order to contribute to environmental protection and
social and economic development. A Multispectral Data Analysis System (M-DAS)
manufactured by Bendix Co. and a Interactive Multispectral Image Analysis System
(Image-100) manufactured by GE Co. are already installed in the Center. Follow-
ing activities are planed:
a) Investigations and researches concerning remote sensing
b) Training of personnel for remote sensing including experiments of instruments
c) Publicity concerning remote sensing and data service
d) Intends to promote close international cooperation with foreign organizations
Papers of this field printed in the journal of the Japan Society of Photogram-
metry are listed below:
