The Department of Civil and Structural Engineering is equipped with a measuring
system consisting of à Wild P32 camera and a stereocomparator.
TRANSPORT AND ROAD RESEARCH LABORATOR Y, Department of the
Environment
For terrain evaluation, 86 surveys have been made of landslide areas in
Colombia and Nepal, in collaboration with Meridian Airmaps Limited and
The City University. Other photogrammetric work has covered distortions
of a box section bridge, rust areas on metal reinforcing bars removed from a
concrete road, chalk cross sections as produced by a Channel Tunnel drilling
machine, and pedestrian behaviour in front of buses. The problem of film
flatness for analytical photogrammetry has been tackled by fitting reseau
plates to Hasselblad cameras.
UNIVERSITY OF YORK, Institute of Advanced Architectural Studies
The Institute has recently established a photogrammetric unit with a staff
of three to carry out work in the field of architectural photogrammetry (49).
The unit represented a development from the smaller photogrammetric unit
of the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (England) whose work is
described separately.
Initially much of the unit's work will be concerned with the recording of the
historic buildings in the care of the Department of the Environment, but
continuing research into the refinement of the techniques of architectural
photogrammetry will form an important and integral part of the work, The
unit has taken over the Thompson-Watts Mark II photogrammetric plotter
and the pair of Officine Galileo Veroplast cameras, which belonged to the
former unit, and a number of new pieces of equipment designed to improve the
Speed and flexibility of the surveying process have been purchased.
