Section 3 deals with the measurement procedures with
special attention given to the establishment of correct test
conditions. Experimental parameters which may influence accu-
racy of measurement are considered; e.g., the irradiance of
the test pattern, the extension of the test pattern and scanning
element, and date acquisition time, It is shown that conditions
for such parameters must be optimized to assure accuracy of
measurement.
Section 4 standardizes the evaluation and presentation
of data, A set of parameters are established such that OTF data
is complete and comparable.
Sections 3 and 4 have been published for discussion pur-
poses and may be adopted this year.
In Section 5 and following sections of the standard figures
of merit for quality, evaluation of optical systems by means
of OTF shall be established.
5.6.2 OTF Studies: OTF studies have been extensive. They
include the following (references 40 - 46 3.
Relations Between the Axial Aberrations of Photographic
Lenses and their Optical Transfer Functions; Flare and Optical
Transfer Functions; Comparison of Different Methods of Assessing
the Performance of Lenses; the Influence of Inaccuracy of Con-
struction Parameters on the Calculated Optical Transfer Function;
Chromatic Aberrations and Optical Transfer Functions of Photo-
graphic Lenses; Trends in the Development of OTF Measuring Equipments;
and Some Remarks about the Calculation of Optical Transfer Function.

5.7 The Netherlands: There is no new report from the Netherlands
since the Interim Working Group Report of 1974 at which time
there was much activity. It is expected that standards are
being generated which fit the need for a generally valid standard
with a solid physical and mathematical basis, so that space-variant,
and devices afflicted with a considerable amount of veiling
glare can also be tested.
At the Philips Company (1974) MTF tests were standardized 47
for passive image-intensifying systems, intensifiers, and front
optics for such systems, and eye pieces. For further details,
see 1974 Working Group report.
